Located in Downtown Miami, the building brings life back to an urban part of Miami that has been neglected in recent years by activating the street with commercial spaces and adding a public aquatic center.  Across the street is a park that connects the property of the Aquatic Center to the main transportation station in Miami, Government Center.  The building becomes a public amenity and therefore takes on a civic character.  The ground floor has retail facing the main avenue, while the two sides of the building, facing quieter streets, serve as  entrances for the swimmers and their guests.  The building is a long-span steel structure, which became a celebrated aspect of the design. The interior of the pool has light steel trusses connecting slender steel columns , which in turn frames the pool.
